JOB OPENING:
Job Title: Gas Crew
Division: Gas
Reports To: Foreman/ Superintendent / Crew Lead
Pay Range: $24.00 – $40.00 hourly
Position Summary
A gas crew is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining piping systems for gas. They read design specifications to cut and thread pipes, perform routine inspections, and maintain pipework.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Study drawings and specifications to determine the layout of the installation and materials required.
- Measure and mark reference points for installation of gas lines and equipment.
- Install and maintain gas meters and regulators and gas lines between gas unit and gas meter.
- Test and replace defective equipment or components.
- Test and adjust control mechanisms and check pipes and piping connections for gas leaks using gas detecting devices.
- Attend to gas escape calls and assist in the investigation of gas fires, leaks and explosions.
- Prepare reports on work performed and condition of facilities.
- Advise clients regarding standards, safety features and maintenance of gas units and systems.
- Convert motor vehicles or appliances to use natural gas fuels.
- May repair and service gas appliances and related equipment.
COMPETENCIES & REQUIREMENTS
- Basic communication skills and the ability to comprehend written and verbal instruction.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license with a valid DOT physical (preferred).
- Strong work ethic with the ability to effectively work in a team environment.
- Complete all work in an organized timely manner, while adhering to the company’s safety protocols and any applicable regulations.
- Understand the proper use for PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). This will include the ability to wear the proper issued FR (Fire Retardant) clothing.
- Physical demands include, but not limited to standing for extended periods of time, walking, lifting, and carrying up to 50 pounds, reaching, squatting, and bending.
- Some jobs may require twisting in awkward positions for extended durations.
- Strength and endurance must be adequate to endure arduous labor in all outdoor weather conditions.
- It is imperative to be punctual, daily at the assigned time and ready to work. This is non-negotiable.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day.
- Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform Key Duties.
- Work can be in a confine space.
- Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50 pounds personally, and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Manual dexterity to hand-carry generators and other construction materials, forms, power tools, and hand tools.
- Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.
- Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions. Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that are typically associated with a construction project.
- Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
- Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel.
