JOB OPENING:
Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator
Division: Civil or Gas
Reports To: Foreman
Salary: $30.00 – $45.00 hourly
Position Summary
The heavy equipment operator position requires individuals with proven experience in safely operating and maintaining machinery, interpreting site plans and markings, and utilizing various controls for precise excavation. A strong understanding of safety protocols, including trenching and confined space procedures, is essential, along with relevant certifications. The ideal candidate possesses excellent hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and the ability to work effectively as part of a crew.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Perform daily preventative maintenance such as track cleaning, inspection for damage, and fluid check.
- Adhere to all prescribed safety practices and procedures.
- Interpret signals, stakes, and markings to respect plan specifications, safe use of shoring systems, the ability to regrade stakes.
- Utilize pedals and levers to control the speed and direction of the machine.
- Utilize pedals or levers to control height/depth and angle/pitch of bucket.
- Install/change attachments using levers and hand tools.
COMPETENCIES & REQUIREMENTS
- Knowledge of controls, methods, and techniques for operating heavy equipment.
- Ability to interpret grade stakes.
- Applicable dexterity, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination.
- Completion of Trenching and Confined Space safety course.
- Competent Persons Certification and Heavy Equipment Training
