Job Title: Class A Cable Splicer
Division: Overhead
Reports To: Overhead Superintendent
Pay Range: $30.00 – $45.00 hourly
Position Summary
As a Class A Cable Splicer (Certified Electrical), you will be integral to the installation and maintenance of electrical systems, ensuring safe and efficient operations. Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor, your core skills in hand tools and power tools will be essential in executing tasks on construction sites. Your premium skills in construction management and electrical experience will enhance project efficiency, while your relevant skills in blueprint reading and construction inspection will ensure adherence to safety standards. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Arranges cable and equipment in manholes, vaults and on overhead terminal poles in accordance with construction standards.
- Splices and terminates electric underground cable for voltages ranging from secondary to 33 kv transmission.
- Splices energized cables up to 480 V.
- Splices and terminates 15- 33 kv aerial cable.
- Installs, inspects, and maintains underground equipment such as transformers, splices,
- Installs, inspects, tests, cleans, and repairs A. C. network transformers, protectors, and other associated equipment.
- Adjusts or replaces protective relays and checks for proper operation.
- Pot heads and terminates cables near high-voltage overhead lines and storm restoration work.
- Drives and operates trucks, aerial lifts, and other equipment.
- Operates portable generators and pumps, and small electric tools.
- Performs any other duties required to complete a job.
COMPETENCIES & REQUIREMENTS
- Must be proficient in splicing and terminating various distribution class cables including paper lead, EPR, and XLP.
- Ability to meet U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration weight restriction for bucket trucks when wearing required tools.
- Demonstrated ability to operate equipment.
- Properly dress and remove PPE and cover ups when appropriate.
- Willingness to work during emergencies.
- Willingness to work in adverse weather.
- Clear communication.
- Positive attitude and the ability to work well with others.
- Customer service skills.
- Self-motivation with minimal supervision.
- Commitment to work overtime on a regular basis.
- Certified BGE Splicer
- Commercial Driver’s License.
- 2+ years related work experience or equivalent combination of formal education/training and experience
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Must be able to work in manholes of all depths, around energized equipment, and cables, and near heavy vehicular traffic.
- Must be able to climb different types of structures (i.e. wood, steel, etc.).
- Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day.
- Employees must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform key duties.
- Frequently work with hands extended overhead, sometimes in conjunction with the operation of hand power tools.
- Work at elevated heights and/or in confined spaces.
- Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50 pounds personally, and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Manual dexterity to hand-carry generators, lumber and other construction materials, power tools, and hand tools.
