Job Title: Overhead Lineman A
Division: Overhead
Reports To: General Superintendent
Pay Range: $50.00 – $60.00
Position Summary
The Overhead A- Lineman is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing overhead and underground electrical power lines and auxiliary equipment. This role is critical for ensuring the continuous delivery of electrical power to residential, commercial, and industrial customers. The position requires a thorough understanding of electrical systems, safety protocols, and the ability to work in challenging environments.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Installation and Maintenance:
- Install, repair, and maintain overhead and underground electrical power lines.
- Set up and maintain electrical power distribution systems.
- String wire conductors and cables between poles, towers, and buildings.
- Install and maintain transformers, circuit breakers, switches, and other electrical equipment.
Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety standards and protocols to prevent electrical hazards.
- Utilize proper protective equipment and tools while working.
- Follow industry regulations and company policies for safe operations.
- Perform job site inspections to ensure safety compliance.
Technical Skills:
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
- Operate and maintain line trucks, aerial lift devices, and other specialized equipment.
- Conduct routine inspections and troubleshooting to identify electrical faults.
- Use testing equipment to check for continuity, voltage, and other parameters.
Customer Service:
- Communicate effectively with customers and the general public.
- Provide timely updates on repair and maintenance activities.
- Address customer concerns and service interruptions efficiently.
Emergency Response:
- Respond to power outages and emergency situations promptly.
- Participate in on-call rotations for after-hours and weekend emergency repairs.
- Coordinate with other utility services and emergency response teams.
COMPETENCIES & REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an Accredited Lineman Apprenticeship Program or equivalent.
- 6 to 8 years of experience as an Electrical Lineman.
- Experience with both overhead and underground line work preferred.
- Strong understanding of electrical theory and principles
- Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment.
- Ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
CERTIFICATIONS
- Valid Lineman Certification.
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be required.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and materials.
- Physical stamina to climb poles and work in confined spaces.
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
